Erasmus+ “Little Scientist” – training course for school children in “Arturówek”, Łódź

On June 15, 2016, European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology in co-operation with University of Łódź, Department of Applied Ecology organized a short scientific course for school children aged 12-15 years old, taking part in the international educational project Erasmus+ “Little Scientist” theme “WATER” carried out by Łódzkie Stowarzyszenie Oświatowe.
The event took place in Arturówek recreational site in Łódź. The young scientists gained knowledge about protection, restoration and maintenance of good quality of water in urban reservoirs with the use of ecohydrological biotechnologies. Children could also learn basics in ecology, such as trophic pyramid and important species of flora and fauna that live in the ponds. The course contained short class presentation, visit to the area and three practical demonstrations and exercises. The educational material was prepared based on the results and training materials of the project "Ecohydrologic rehabilitation of recreational reservoirs “Arturówek” (Łódź) as a model approach to rehabilitation of urban reservoirs" LIFE08 ENV/PL/000517.
